LA PESTE is the continuation of SAFE PLACE, whose initial intention was to create a new piece by inverting materials: the frame becomes soft, while the tapestry — along with the structure that supports it — becomes metallic.
This first experiment in crochet transforms yarn into a kind of pink lace body that mercilessly invades the surrounding space, like a parasite within an organism. Although its rusted rebar structure could damage it, the work uses this constraint to gain the autonomy necessary to stand upright, self-assured and imposing, ready to welcome those who might wish to confront it before its blurred mirror.
The blur — or the opaque quality of the sheet metal, which makes a clear reflection impossible — becomes here a sign of uncertainty: the impossibility of fully rendering visible what is happening, and what has happened, to our bodies and to our history.
